Fans invited to join Storm's "Stormin' for the Cure" team

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today announced that its official race team, "Stormin' for the Cure" presented by Virginia Mason Medical Center, will participate in the 2006 Puget Sound Race for the Cure®. Fans are encouraged to join the "Stormin' for the Cure" race team to help set new team participation and funds-raised records. All of the "Stormin' for the Cure" team's proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Fans can register for the "Stormin' for the Cure" team online by logging on to storm.wnba.com. The registration fee is $25 and includes a pink Storm/Virginia Mason Medical Center water bottle.

Earlier this month, the Storm and the Puget Sound affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation announced that Seattle All-Star guard Sue Bird will serve as the local honorary chair of the Puget Sound Race for the Cure®.

The 2006 Puget Sound Race for the Cure® will take place at Qwest Field and at the Qwest Exhibition Center on Saturday, June 17. The race gathers more than 15,000 runners and walkers for the 5K and 1K events. Participants in the race include breast cancer survivors, co-survivors, advocates, teams and individual participants. The race is sponsored locally by Chevron and by 30 additional local sponsors in the Puget Sound region. On Friday, June 23, the Storm's 7 p.m. game against the San Antonio Silver Stars at KeyArena will be themed as Breast Health Awareness Night and presented by Virginia Mason Medical Center. Before the game and throughout the evening, breast cancer survivors will be celebrated and honored for their strength and inspiration. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of the cause, as Storm and Silver Stars players will wear pink Breast Health Awareness t-shirts during their pregame warm-ups.

The Storm will open their 2006 season against Western Conference rival Los Angeles at KeyArena on Sunday, May 21 at 6 p.m. The following Tuesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Houston Comets at 8 p.m. at the Key.
