EVERETT, Wash. - Anthony Fernandez pitched six scoreless innings and Kevin Mailloux hit a two-run homer as the Everett AquaSox (16-14, 43-25) defeated the Eugene Emeralds (15-15, 30-38) by a final of 4-1 Saturday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Fernandez (7-3, 2.79 ERA) allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out six to pick up his seventh victory of the season, tying him for most on the team. Fernandez has given up just two earned runs in his last three outings (17.0 innings).

Mailloux went 3-for-4 with the home run, two RBI and a double to lead the Sox, who are now a win away from tying the AquaSox record for wins at 44, set the last time they made the playoffs in 2002.

Mailloux got the Sox going early, smacking his 14th homer of the season out of right-center field in the first. Jimmy Jacquot followed with a run-scoring double three innings later that scored Steven Baron and gave the Sox a 3-0 advantage.

Fernandez cruised through six innings of work until giving way to left-hander Bennett Whitmore to begin the seventh. In his one inning, Whitmore gave up three singles and a wild pitch to allow the Ems only run of the evening.

Evan Sharpley added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out double, plating the Sox fourth run of the night. Jorden Merry struck out three in two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.

Eugene starter Deiber Sanchez (0-2, 3.15 ERA) pitched four innings to suffer the loss.
