EVERETT, Wash. - Ogui Diaz pitched five scoreless innings and Evan Sharpley hit a two-run homer in the first inning as the Everett AquaSox (17-14, 44-25) defeated the Eugene Emeralds (15-16, 30-39) by a final of 7-2 Sunday afternoon at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The club's 44th win matches an AquaSox record, set back in 2002 when the Frogs last made the NWL Playoffs. The franchise record for wins is 49, set by the 1987 Everett Giants.

Diaz (4-3, 5.12 ERA) earned his first win as a starter with five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out two. The 24-year-old right-hander has allowed six hits and one earned run in his last two outings.

Kevin Rivers knocked in the first run of the game with a two-out single in the first, followed one pitch later by a two-run homer by Sharpley to left. Rivers, after going 3-for-4 on the night with two RBI, is now hitting .500 against the Emeralds in 11 games this season.

Kevin Mailloux continued his hot hitting with a run-scoring double in the third inning, giving the Sox a 4-0 lead. Mailloux has hit safely in six straight games with a home run and six RBI during the stretch.

The Frogs were victims of an unusual play in the bottom of the sixth inning, wasting a first-and-third nobody out situation by getting caught in two rundowns in the same play.

The Emeralds cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh inning off Chris Kessinger, who had replaced Diaz to begin the sixth. Tommy Medica and Paul Bingham delivered back-to-back hits to account for the scoring, and it took some clutch pitching by reliever John Housey to keep the damage minimal

Willy Kesler extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to 21 innings to earn his team-leading fourth save.

Rivers tacked on his second RBI of the night with a single in the eighth and Steven Baron hit a two-run double to tally the final score at 7-2. Robbie Anston added two hits and Mailloux went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Dexter Carter (1-1, 4.98 ERA) took the loss for Eugene.

The Frogs play for the series sweep Monday night at 7:05 as Chris Sorce (7-2, 4.03 ERA) pitches for the Sox against Mauricio Tabachnik (3-3, 3.83 ERA) for the Ems. The Frogs continue a six-game homestand on Tuesday with game one of the final home series of the year against Vancouver.
