PASCO, Wash. - The Yakima Bears (19-11, 37-31) capitalized on a Jeremiah Sammy throwing error to score two in the sixth and defeat the Tri-City Dust Devils (11-19, 28-40) 4-2 in front of 2,620 fans at Gesa Stadium Saturday night.

With two outs and two runners on in the top of the sixth, Raywilly Gomez hit a ground ball to the shortstop and Sammy threw it away, allowing two unearned runs to come in for the Bears, which would prove to be the difference.

The Yakima bullpen combined for five innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit between Greg Robinson, Keith Cantwell, and Kable Hogben.

Robinson (7-3) pitched two innings, allowing a hit and striking out three to earn the victory. Tyler Trice (1-2) pitched two-plus innings, allowing two unearned runs on a hit to take the loss. Hogben tossed a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the season.

Both benches cleared in the top of the ninth inning after Yazy Arbelo was granted time, stepped out of the batter's box and Tri-City reliever Brad McAtee let a fastball go near Arbelo's head. The Bears' first baseman charged the mound but no punches were thrown, no ejections were made, and both dugouts were issued warnings.

Westley Moss was the lone Bear to record a multi-hit night, both of the infield variety. Mike Freeman delivered a two-out, game-tying, two-run single in the top of the fourth. Freeman also stole two bases.

Yakima and Tri-City will meet again Sunday night for game two of the three-game series. Brad Wilson (2-3, 4.22 ERA) is expected to pitch for the Bears against Josh Hungerman (4-4, 2.55 ERA) for the Devils.
