Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Trailing in the top of the 5th inning and being shut down by the top pitching prospect in the Washington Nationals organization, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders bats came alive to rally for an 8-3 win.
RHP Erick Fedde began the night by striking out eight men and scattering a pair of hits over the first four innings, but then Scranton put the first five men on in the 5th inning to spark a rally. The 5th inning was punctuated by a two-run double by Tyler Wade (2-for-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI), a bases-loaded walk by Mike Ford (1-for-2, 3 RBI, 2 BB) and then a go-ahead, two-run single by Kyle Higashioka (1-for-4, 2 RBI) off reliever David Goforth to take the lead for good.
The RailRiders offense added three more runs in the 7thinning to extend their lead and make it comfortable for their pitching staff down the stretch.
Camarena (2-1) earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Syracuse plated a run off him in the 3rd inning with an RBI double by Adrian Sanchez, in which he was thrown out trying to make it to third base for a triple. They added two more of the starter an inning later when Jacob Wilson doubled home Matt Reynolds and Matt Hague to extend the lead. Camarena settled-down and retired the final five men he faced in order, to finish his night.
Out of the RailRiders bullpen, Brady Lail worked two shutout frames for his first hold of the year. Then Cale Coshow came out of the bullpen in the 8th inning and pitched two scoreless in a non-save situation to lock down the win for the RailRiders.
The win snaps an eight-game road losing streak for SWB dating back to a rain-shortened, 4-3 win over the Charlotte Knights April 15.
The RailRiders continue this three-game set on Tuesday night. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will send Nestor Cortes (0-1, 5.40) to the hill against Syracuse's Edwin Jackson (0-1, 4.56). First pitch is scheduled for 6:36 p.m. with a 6:05 p.m. pregame show with Adam Marco and Adam Giardino on NEPA Sports Radio "The Game." The RailRiders return to PNC Field on a Thirsty Thursday to start a seven-game homestand later this week.
