
Chiefs Fall in Series Opener to RailRiders

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped their sixth straight game with an 8-3 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Monday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse starting pitcher Erick Fedde struck out a Chiefs season-high ten batters in four and two-thirds innings on the mound.
Syracuse (14-14) scored first in the bottom of the third inning. Hunter Jones led off with a walk. Two batters later, Adrian Sanchez doubled into the right-field corner, scoring Jones from first and giving Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
The Chiefs scored again in the fourth. With one out, Matt Reynolds walked and Matt Hague doubled to put runners on second and third. Jacob Wilson followed with a double to the left-field wall to bring home both Reynolds and Hague for a 3-0 Syracuse advantage.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (14-16) tied the game and took the lead with a five-run top of the fifth. Thairo Estrada, Ryan McBroom, and Bruce Caldwell all singled to load the bases to begin the inning. Tyler Wade then doubled to left field, scoring Estrada and McBroom to cut the Syracuse edge to one, 3-2. A Shane Robinson walk loaded the bases again. Fedde struck out Clint Frazier and Adam Lind, but Mike Ford walked on a 3-2 pitch to bring home Caldwell and tie the game, 3-3. Kyle Higashioka then singled to left field to score both Wade and Robinson and put Scranton-Wilkes-Barre up, 5-3.
The RailRiders extended their lead in the seventh. Robinson walked and Frazier singled to put runners on first and second with no outs against David Goforth. Lind doubled home Robinson to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 6-3 edge. Ford followed with a single to right field that scored Frazier from third and Lind from second to make it an 8-3 RailRiders advantage.
Syracuse and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continue their three-game series on Tuesday night. RHP Edwin Jackson will be on the mound for the Chiefs opposite LHP Nestor Cortes for the RailRiders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
