FC Dallas News Release

DENVER, Colo. (Friday, June 19) - FC Dallas (6-5-5, 23 points) took a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute on a goal scored by Fabian Castillo, but for the second time in two months, Colorado netted a late equalizer at Dick's Sporting Goods Park and the match finished 1-1.

The home side had the best scoring opportunity of the first 10 minutes when Dillon Powers whistled a free kick just over the crossbar on a free kick taken 20 yards from goal.

Powers also setup a chance for Dillon Serna in the 18th minute. The midfielder received the pass 40 yards from goal in the center of the pitch and weaved his way through a pair of defenders before passing the ball to the top left corner of the area. Serna found enough space to take an extra touch before attempting to beat FC Dallas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, low to the near post, but the MLS veteran read the play well, made a diving save and smothered the rebound.

Dallas weathered the storm and earned its first corner of the evening in the 25th minute, following another near miss by Serna at the back post.

Despite giving up five corners in the first half and losing the possession battle 58-42, Dallas went into the break optimistic due to its 3-1-4 record when tied, 0-0, at halftime this season.

FC Dallas nearly found the back of the net in the 48th minute when a long ball from Kennedy was headed into space by Blas Perez. Michael Barrios caught up to the ball and played a cross to the top of the area, where second-half substitute Kyle Bekker struck a hard, first-touch shot on goal. Fortunately for Colorado, goalkeeper Clint Irwin was in position to make the save.

Castillo got his first good look of the match in the 71st minute and was able to capitalize with a laser strike from the top left corner of the area that split two Colorado defenders and slipped through the fingers of Irwin before finding the far side netting. Kyler Bekker set up the chance after Victor Ulloa played a ball into space for Barrios on the right flank. Barrios' attempted cross was deflected and careened to Bekker's feet. The Canadian international calmly pushed the ball to Castillo, who had time to stare down two defenders and pick his shot.

The equalizer came in the 88th minute, when late-substitute Vicente Sanchez got the ball to former FC Dallas player Drew Moor. Moor crossed the ball to the far post, where Dillon Serna had slipped inside his marker and was able to finish to the far post.

Castillo had a chance for a second goal in stoppage time after picking up the ball near the left corner flag and burning past a trio of Rapid's defenders. The Colombian looked far post and cracked a low, hard shot to the near post, beating Irwin but not the bar. The shot smacked off the inside of the post, and rebounded back into the feet of the goalkeeper, leaving Dallas with just a share of the points.

After a grueling, five-game road swing, FC Dallas returns home to Toyota Stadium next Friday, June 26. The match, presented by Novo Nordisk, is set to kickoff at 8 p.m. CT.
