SANDY, Utah - With his first touch after a four-month injury layoff, Alvaro Saborio headed home a corner kick to boost Real Salt Lake past visiting FC Dallas, 2-1, in front of a sold-out crowd at Rio Tinto Stadium.

The home side got its first good look at goal in just the sixth minute when Chris Wingert took a chance from distance that was deflected wide for a corner kick. The ensuing service was cleared, but Real Salt Lake maintained possession and rarely relinquished it over the next nearly 30 minutes, taking nine shots in the half. In the 31st minute the pressure paid off for the home side when veteran Robbie Findley picked up a rebound and slotted it to the back post for a 1-0 Real Salt Lake lead.

Midway through a much-improved second half performance, FC Dallas found an equalizer after rookie Tesho Akindele earned a free kick just outside the box. Michel stepped up and delivered an improbable strike through a sea of bodies, finding the back of the net with no chance for Nick Rimando to stop him.

From there it looked as though FC Dallas would take home at least a point on the night, until Saborio's 77th minute header claimed all three for the home side.

With seven games remaining, the playoff race is heating up as tonight's result gave Real Salt Lake (12-5-10, 46 points) a four-point advantage on FC Dallas (12-9-6, 42 points) in the Western Conference. FC Dallas returns home to host Vancouver Saturday night at Toyota Stadium before facing a tough stretch of games with L.A. and Seattle finishing out September.
