Colorado Rapids News Release
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In a match of few chances, Mexico and Chile played out a goalless draw in front of more than 67,000 fans at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Saturday night.
Mexico now head to Commerce City for a meeting with Bolivia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Tuesday, kick-off 8 p.m MT.
Between them, Mexico and Chile managed just six shots, with the South American side the only one managing a shot on target..It was Guillermo Ochoa, in the Mexican goal, who was the busier. Only two fine saves from the 29-year-old kept Chile off the scoresheet.
Mexico head coach, Miguel Herrera rang the changes after the interval, making six substitutions, although one of those was forced upon him as Giovani Dos Santos limped out of the contest after 66 minutes with what appeared to be a muscle injury, making him a doubt for Tuesday's match against Bolivia.
This was a match involving two teams knocked out at the Round of 16 stage of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Mexico led for much of their match-up with the Netherlands, before conceding two late goals to go out 2-1. Chile succumbed to the hosts on penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra-time.
MEXICO: Guillermo Ochoa; Paul Aguilar, Francisco Rodriguez (Hugo Ayala 46'), Miguel Herrera, Oswaldo Alanis, Miguel Ponce (Miguel Layún 65'), Hector Herrera (Javier Aquino 74'), Jose Juan Vazquez (Antonio RÃ-os MartÃ-nez 70'), Andres Guardado (Marco Fabian 80'), Oribe Peralta, Giovani Dos Santos (Javier Orozco 66').
CHILE: Claudio Bravo; Gonzalo Jara, Gary Medel, Francisco Silva, Eugenio Mena (Miiko Albornoz 56'), Rodrigo Millar, Marcelo Diaz, Mauricio Isla, Arturo Vidal, Charles Aránguiz (Mauricio Pinilla 71'), Alexis Sánchez (Juan Delgado 85').
This will be Mexico's third visit to Dick's Sporting Goods Park, having defeated Bolivia 5-1 on March 11, 2009 in the most recent visit to the stadium. 'El Tri' lost to Colombia 1-0 on August 22, 2007 in the team's other match in Commerce City.
