Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw their first overtime game-winner in club history off the stick of F Pierre-Luc Faubert as the Express collected a 4-3 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings.

With both teams struggling lately, it was Kalamazoo who wasted no time drawing first blood. Just 52 seconds into the first period, Wings D Sam Ftorek fired a shot into traffic that deflected off of the body of C Justin Taylor to give Kalamazoo the early lead. The Wings added onto their lead at 4:45 when Ftorek took a pass from F Trent Daavettila and fired it off of Express C Aaron Marvin and into the net. Penalties were the story for Chicago in the first period as they had five penalties and the Wings held a 13-10 shot advantage in the first frame.

Chicago chipped into the lead at 6:25 when D Nathan Lutz collapsed in from the back line, took a pass through traffic from C Joe Cucci and lifted it over the blocker of G Riley Gill. The Express then knotted it up at 2-2 when LW Tyler Donati split two K-Wings defenders and snapped a shot into the top corner with just 22 seconds left in the second period. The Express held a 22-19 shot advantage through the second period.

Back-and-forth action in the third period helped the score remain 2-2 until late in the final frame. With 1:47 left in the third period, LW Chad Painchaud received a pass from RW Tyler Donati and fired the puck past G Riley Gill to lift the Express to a 3-2 lead. The Wings did not give up, however, and a late Chicago penalty resulted in a goal by RW Darryl Bootland with 14.5 seconds left in the game, sending the contest into overtime.

Faubert played the hero in the extra frame, as he received a pass from D Brett Motherwell and fired the puck over the shoulder of Gill, scoring the first overtime goal in Chicago Express history and securing a 4-3 win over Kalamazoo.
