June 9, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Northern League has announced that Kansas City T-Bones first baseman/designated hitter Jim Fasano has been named Player of the Week for the period ending June 6, 2010.
Fasano, who is tied for the league lead with 18 RBI and is tied for second in the league with five home runs, batted .381 (eight-for-21) with seven runs scored, four home runs, and nine RBI in the week. He hit four home runs in four days, including three versus the Joliet JackHammers on June 4 and 5. It marks the second straight week a T-Bones player was honored as the Player of the Week.
The 26-year-old, left-handed hitting slugger is playing his third season with Kansas City. He led the league with 20 home runs in 2008 and hit another 12 in 2009. Helping lead the T-Bones to the championship two years ago, he was named 2008 Northern League Playoff MOP and was selected as a 2008 Northern League Post-Season All-Star as a designated hitter. This is Fasano's fourth career Northern League Player of the Week award. He was selected twice in 2008 and once last season.
The 6-5, 230-pounder signed with the T-Bones in 2008 after playing four seasons in the Texas Rangers organization. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the ninth round of the 2004 amateur draft as a junior out of the University of Richmond. With the Spiders, he was the Atlantic-10 Player of the Year in 2003 after batting .344 with 16 home runs and 68 RBI. He followed-up that season leading the A-10 with 18 home runs while batting .316 and driving in 62 runs in 2004.
Kansas City and the Winnipeg Goldeyes continue their four-game series in Winnipeg tonight, beginning with the completion of last night's suspended game. Kansas City currently leads that contest 3-0 with two outs and a runner on first in the top of the fifth. Approximately 20 minutes after that game, the two teams will play a seven-inning contest.
