Joliet JackHammers News Release

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers recovered from a 4-1 loss in game one to down the Lake County Fielders 2-1 in game two of the twin bill at Silver Cross Field Wednesday night. The two teams will conclude their three game series tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m.

The JackHammers (10-9) picked up a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to squeak by the Fielders. Jonathan Wyatt reached on the Joe Ramos throwing error and moved up to third on a base hit by Kevin Rios. Freddie Thon lifted the first pitch from Ryan Bicondoa (0-1) to center for a sacrifice to tie the game at one. Jon Nelson kept the inning going with a single with both runners moving up on a wild pitch. After Ryan Basham struck out, Bicondoa threw another wild pitch to allow the go ahead run to score.

The Fielders (7-12) threatened in the seventh against Todd Privett (2-1) on back-to-back singles by Josh Short and Jeff Dunbar with two outs. With runners at the corners and two away, Drew Shetrone came on and struck out Kyle Higgins to preserve the 2-1 victory.

Privett was the real story on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings allowing only one run on four hits with three strikeouts. The only blemish against Privett was a leadoff home run by Short in the fifth inning.

Bicondoa was the tough luck loser, tossing a six inning complete game surrendering two unearned runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Lake County captured the game one victory, silencing the Joliet bats to the tune of one run on seven hits.

The Fielders never looked back, scoring the first four runs of the game against Ross Stout (1-2). Kyle Higgins doubled in the second and scored on a Hank Lanto' single for the 1-0 advantage.

Josh Short launched a two run bomb in the fifth to put the Fielders up 4-0. Stout hit Cody Strait with a pitch and Short smacked his homer to right centerfield.

The JackHammers lone tally came in the fifth inning off Corey Bass. Justin Justice started the frame with a hard hit ball to short and Higgins misplaced for an error. Rodriguez then tripled into right centerfield to put Joliet on the board. Rodriguez would be stranded at third as Garrett Sherrill (2-0) came on and got Freddie Thon to line out with runners at the corners.

Joliet added some drama in the seventh, putting runners at first and third with one out in a 4-1 game. Jonathan Wyatt singled and went to third on a Roberto Mena base hit against Chris Homer. Kevin Rios then popped out in foul ground behind the plate to Lanto, who then threw out Mena at second base to end the game. Mena was attempting to tag up on the play.

Stout went five innings in the setback, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with four strikeouts.

William Jackel went the final two, striking out a season high four hitters while allowing three hits.

Sherrill earned the win despite recording only one out. Bass went 4.2 innings allowing the one unearned run while Homer earned his second save.

The rubber matchup tomorrow features Rory Shortell (0-3) opposite Zach Ward (1-2). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.

Loose Gravel:

- The JackHammers failed to score an earned run in either game, plating three unearned tallies

- Jonathan Wyatt reached base in both games and currently has a 19 game on-base streak

- Drew Shetrone earned his second one out save of the season and fourth overall
