Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (2-0-0-0) defeated the Worcester Sharks (0-1-0-0) by the final score of 4-3 Saturday night at the MassMutual Center.

Springfield second-year forward Jake Hansen notched two scores, including a shorthanded tally at the 16:16 mark of the second period that would serve as the eventual game-winning goal. Hansen scored his first goal at 15:07 of the first period, as he deflected a Tim Erixon slap shot from the point past Worcester netminder Harri Sateri.

Erixon, who was loaned to the Falcons Friday night, had a team-high three assists and a +3 rating. The former first-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames earned a helper on both of Hansen's scores, in addition to one on the game's first goal - a Lukas Sedlak deflection at 3:05 of the first period.

Jonathan Marchessault scored his first goal of the season, beating Sateri over his left shoulder on a five-on-three power play at 14:39 of the second period. Marchessault led the Falcons with 67 points during the 2012-13 campaign.

Eriah Hayes, Brodie Reid and James Livingston scored the goals for the Sharks.

Springfield goaltender Jeremy Smith improved to 2-0-0 on the young season, stopping 26 of the 29 shots he faced Saturday night. Sateri allowed four goals between the posts for Worcester, making 15 saves on 19 shots.

The Falcons are back in action Sunday afternoon, as the team travels to Bridgeport to take on the Sound Tigers at 3:00 p.m. The Falcons are back at the MassMutual Center Saturday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. versus the Sharks.
