McGinn and Raffl Recalled by Flyers

October 12, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that the team has recalled forwards Tye McGinn and Michael Raffl from the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Both will be available to play in Philadelphia's away game tonight at the Detroit Red Wings. Raffl will wear jersey #12 with the Flyers, the same number he has worn in his brief time with the Phantom. McGinn will be #15 with Philadelphia.

Tye McGinn, 23, has scored a goal in two games this year for Adirondack. Last season he played in 18 games with the Flyers scoring 3-2-5 with 19 penalty minutes. He also played in 46 games with Adirondack scoring 14-12-26 with 54 PIM. The younger brother of NHL'er Jamie McGinn is in his third season of professional hockey. Tye McGinn had something of a dream-week at the end of January last year.

On January 22 he made his NHL debut against the New Jersey Devils shortly after his first in-season recall by the Flyers. A couple days later he won over many of the Flyers fans with his first NHL fight against Kris Newbury of the New York Rangers who is now teammates with McGinn in Philadelphia. And then on January 26, McGinn scored his first NHL goal in an away game at the Florida Panthers.

Last year, McGinn established a Phantoms' franchise record when he scored a goal just nine seconds into a game on March 24, 2013 against the Portland Pirates. McGinn was a fourth-round selection of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft out of the Gatineau Olympics of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Michael Raffl, 24, of Villach, Austria, signed with the Flyers organization as a free agent over this past off-season. He has one goal and two assists in his two games with the Adirondack Phantoms. On Saturday night at the Hartford Wolf Pack, Raffl scored his first ever professional goal in North America. When Raffl debuts for Philadelphia it will be his first game in the NHL.

Previously, Raffl has starred in the Sweden minor leagues and in his home country of Austria. He garnered particular attention this past May when he represented Austria at the International Ice Hockey Federation Championship Tournament. He scored a goal and an assist in a hard-fought loss to a powerhouse Russian squad.

25 Terrific Seasons

Glens Falls is celebrating its 25th season hosting an AHL team and in so doing now joins an elite group of only 12 other cities who can make such a claim. It's a great hockey tradition with an old-school feel that began with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1979 who won four Calder Cups in their 20-year run at the GFCC. The Adirondack Phantoms began play in Glens Falls in 2009-2010 and are beginning their fifth season.
