Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, ME - The Portland Pirates will look for their first win of the season as they take on the division rival Providence Bruins at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee tonight. Puck drop is set for 7 PM as the Bruins visit the Colisee for the first of eight meetings this season.
The Pirates get back on the ice after falling 3-2 to the Manchester Monarchs on Wednesday in the season opener. Rookie Tobias Rieder scored twice in his professional debut, but Manchester proved too much for the Pirates as Brandon Kozun scored the winner in the shootout to give the Monarchs the lead in the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Tires and Service. Mark Visentin made 37 saves for the Pirates, the second most in his career, and Andy Miele added two assists in the loss.
Providence travels to Lewiston after also suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to the Monarchs, Manchester's third straight game to go to a shootout. Former Pirate Nick Johnson continued his hot start, scoring his third goal of the season, while Jared Knight added the other goal for the Bruins. Niklas Svedberg had 32 saves in the loss. On the season, the Bruins have earned 3 points in their 3 games so far.
The Pirates received reinforcements on Friday with the signing of center Gilbert Brul̮̩ to a professional tryout contract and the addition of veteran defenseman Chris Summers from Phoenix. Summers rejoins the team after representing the Pirates in the 2013 AHL All Star Classic last season, while Brul̮̩ joins the Pirates after spending training camp with the Coyotes on a tryout. Between the two, Summers and Brul̮̩ bring 322 games of NHL experience to the Pirates lineup.
Prior to tonight's game, the Kelly Parker Band will perform at the Colisee, presented by 99.3/99.9 The Wolf. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will start at 5:30 in the upper parking lot by the northwest entrance to the Colisee.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 and WTME AM 780/1450 in the Lewiston/Auburn area. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and AHL Live. The pregame show starts at 6:40 with Jeff Mannix. Tickets are still available by calling the Androscoggin Bank Colisee box office at (207) 783-2009 ext. 525 or online at thecolisee.com.
