Falcons Host Bruins Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins meet for the eighth time this season Saturday night at the MassMutual Center sponsored by Domino's Pizza and the United Way. Tonight will mark the fourth time Providence has visited "The Nest" this season and these two Atlantic Division rivals will conclude their season series with the Falcons heading back to Providence on March 30, followed by the Bruins returning to the MassMutual Center on Saturday, April 14. The Falcons have gone 2-5-0-0 against the Bruins this season with both victories coming as a result of the shootout. Providence has won the last three meetings in the season series, including a 4-0 shutout in the last match up on February 25 at Providence. Springfield's shootout wins against Providence this season have occurred on December 2 and January 19.

Former Bruins forward and current Falcons leading scorer Eric Healey leads the Birds in scoring against Providence this season with three goals and five assists for eight points in seven games. Captain Norm Milley is second on the team in scoring against the Bruins this year with two goals and two assists for four points in five games.

Bruins rookie forward T.J. Trevelyan leads Providence in scoring against Springfield this season with five goals and four assists for nine points in seven games played. Fellow first-year pro David Krejci is second on the Bruins in scoring against the Falcons this year with one goal and seven assists for eight points in five games. Goaltender Jordan Sigalet is a perfect 3-0 against Springfield this year with a 1.96 goals against average and .915 save percentage.

The Falcons head into tonight's action having dropped a 4-2 decision Friday night against the Portland Pirates on home ice, the Birds fifth straight loss at the MassMutual Center. Springfield's Daniel Corso opened the scoring with a power play goal giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, only to see Portland answer with three straight power play markers in the second frame taking a 3-1 lead after two periods of play. Springfield pulled within a goal in the third period, but Portland capped of the contest with a late tally.

The Bruins head into Springfield having won their last five games, including a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms last night at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Providence forwards T.J. Trevelyan and Ben Walter added one goal and one assist on the evening while netminder Hannu Toivonen made 12 saves in earning the win. Providence has moved into second place in the Atlantic Division standings with a record of 36-23-1-3 good for 76 points.

FALCONS TEAM NOTES: Rookie defenseman P.J. Atherton scored his second goal in as many games Friday night against Portland. Atherton, who made his AHL debut at the end of the last season with Springfield, made his 2006-07 AHL debut on February 28 at Worcester after being recalled from the Falcons' ECHL affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs. Atherton was tied for the Johnstown team lead in scoring among defensemen at the time of his recall on February 26.

Defenseman Nick Kuiper made his Falcons debut on March 4 at Worcester after being acquired by the Birds from the Portland Pirates on February 27 in exchange for future considerations. Kuiper spent the previous two seasons with the Norfolk Admirals playing in a total of 143 games from 2004-2006.

BRUINS TEAM NOTES: Bruins forward Ben Walter has points in two straight games collecting one goal and two assists in that span. Pascal Pelletier has earned at least a point in four of his last five games collecting one goal and three assists in that span.

Rookie David Krejci has registered at least a point in his last four games played with Providence picking up four goals and three assists in that span. Krejci has picked up at least a point in 13 of his last 14 games played with Providence.
