BRIDGEPORT, CT - In a critical matchup for both teams, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers rode a 3-for-14 power play performance to a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Eric Boguniecki had a goal and three assists for the home team, which pulled eight points ahead of the Phantoms in the race for the East Division's final playoff spot.

After a scoreless first period for both clubs, Triston Grant ended a 32 game goal-free stretch with his fourth of the season. The play was set in motion with John Slaney's headman pass out of his own zone to Jared Ross. The crafty newcomer entered the Bridgeport side and cranked a shot on Tiger tender Wade Dubielewicz. Dubielewicz made the save, but the puck that sat to his left was popped in by Grant at 13:51.

While operating on the power play, Bridgeport native Pete Zingoni increased the score to 2-0. Slaney was again the anchorman on the play, gunning a left point shot on goal. This time the puck dropped at the top of the crease. Eric Meloche touched it to the right post and Zingoni made good on the short put.

The Tigers opened the third period with a trio of goals. The first came off the stick of Steve Regier just 49 seconds in. Less than a minute later, Jamie Johnson's left wing faceoff circle slapper went of the left arm of Phantom backstop Scott Munroe and into the net.

On their seventh power play of the game, the Tigers took their first lead. At 6:35 Alan Rourke threw a puck from the right wing past a screened Munroe. The Phantoms countered on their second man advantage. Stumbling through the low slot, Mark Cullen was centered the puck. He one-timed the disc top-shelf for the tie at 9:07.

A cavalcade of penalties followed, as a stream of Phantoms to the box gave Bridgeport a total of seven power play opportunities in the final 9:21 of the game. The Sound Tigers were enjoying a 5-on-3 advantage when Boguniecki put his club ahead for good at the 12:38 mark. Frans Nielsen scored the eventual game-winner, again on the power play, with three minutes remaining. The Phantoms were still down a man when Eric Meloche put his club back within a goal 17 seconds later, but Philadelphia was shorthanded for the rest of the game and could not find the equalizer.

Munroe took the loss with 25 saves on 30 Bridgeport shots, while Dubielewicz earned the win by stopping 29 of Philadelphia's 33. The Phantoms were assessed 115 minutes in penalties to Bridgeport's 31.

The Phantoms finish their road trip on Sunday with a 4:05 PM tilt with the Portland Pirates. The next Phantoms home game is Friday, March 16 when the Rochester Americans come to the Wachovia Spectrum. Individual tickets for all Phantoms games, including $8 tickets for children 14 and under anywhere in the building, are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200.
