Providence Bruins News Release
Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Springfield Falcons 3-2 Saturday evening at the MassMutual Center. The P-Bruins got goals from David Krejci, and Bill LeClerc. Providence remains in second place in the Atlantic Division with 76 points and a 36-24-1-3 record, one ahead of the third place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Falcons started the scoring in the opening period at the 4:49 mark. The P-Burins turned the puck over in their own end and Norm Milley came up with the puck. He took a shot from the high slot and put it past P-Bruins net minder Jordan Sigalet and into the P-Bruins net. Providence answered back with a 5-on-3 power play goal at the 18:35 mark. Matt Lashoff took a shot from the high slot and the rebound came right to Krejci, who sent the puck into the net just under the crossbar. Ryan Glenn recorded the second assist. Springfield took the lead into the first intermission after Milley scored a shorthanded goal at the 19:44 mark. Eric Healey and P.J. Atherton picked up the assists as the Falcons went into the first intermission with the 2-1 lead.
In the second period, the Falcons scored the lone goal at the 2:20 mark to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. With the puck in the Falcons zone, Glenn lost his footing at the blue line, which allowed Healey to skate the puck alone in the other direction. Sigalet stopped the first shot, but Healey scored on his second opportunity.
In the third period, the P-Bruins pulled within a goal at the 9:32 mark. Mark Stuart stole the puck, while the Falcons were trying to clear the zone and got it to LeClerc at the near left face off circle. He put the puck between the post and Falcons goaltender Karri Ramo, into the net as Springfield held on to win 3-2.
Sigalet stopped 16 of 19 shots for the P-Bruins, while Ramo made 38 saves for the Falcons. Providence was 1 for 3 on the power play, while Springfield went 0 for 2 on the man-advantage.
The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday against the Lowell Devils. The game, beginning at 4:05 p.m., will be followed by a post-game autograph session.
