Admirals Set New Record for Wins in a Season

NORFOLK, VA - Pierre Parenteau's second goal of the night gave the Norfolk Admirals (44-17-5-1) their franchise record-setting 44th victory of the season as they defeated the Binghamton Senators (17-38-3-5) 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night at Scope. The win also gave the AHL-leading Admirals a franchise-record tying 94 points on the season.

Norfolk took the lead 9:33 into the opening frame. Adam Burish squeezed a shot from behind the net through Binghamton netminder Jeff Glass' left leg and the post for his ninth tally of the season.

The Senators knotted the score at 1-1 when Matt Koalska found a rebound at the top of the goalmouth and sent it past Norfolk goalie Mike Brodeur at 2:42 of the second stanza.

Binghamton took a 2-1 lead nearly ten minutes later. Jeff Heerema attempted a shot from the bottom of the left circle but did not make good contact. However, the puck found its way onto the blade of Andrew Ebbett at the opposite side of the crease, who tapped it past Brodeur at 12:12.

Troy Brouwer deadlocked the game at 2-2 under two minutes later. Jerramie Domish took a shot from the high slot that Brouwer deflected past Glass at 13:58 for his 35th goal of the season.

Parenteau's first goal of the contest put Norfolk up 3-2. Dustin Byfuglien attempted a shot from the left point but only got a piece of it. The puck was traveling toward the bottom of the right circle until Parenteau, stationed between the crease and the right circle, angled his stick and re-directed the puck past Glass at 19:15 of the second period.

Ebbett's second goal of the game squared the contest once again, as Cory Pecker spotted him with a cross-crease pass for a tap-in at 5:44 of the third period.

Parenteau's second goal of the game and 25th of the season was the overtime game-winner. He found the puck deep in the attacking zone and sent it past Glass just 28 seconds into overtime as the Admirals claimed victory.

Mike Brodeur (26 shots, 23 saves) picked up his third win of the season. Jeff Glass (31 shots, 28 saves) got the loss.

Both Norfolk and Binghamton were 0-2 on the power play.

The previous record for victories in a single season for the Norfolk Admirals was 43, established during the 2004-05 season (43-30-1-6) and equaled during the 2005-06 campaign (43-29-4-4). The '05-06 season also saw a record 94 points, which Norfolk tied this evening. The Admirals' 2006-07 campaign still has 13 regular season games remaining - including five at Norfolk Scope.
