Albany Devils News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford Wolf Pack (37-23-3-0) came from two goals down to prevail 3-2 in the shootout over the Lowell Devils (31-24-5-4) at the Hartford Civic Center Saturday night.
The Devils came out energized, initiating physical contact and getting early scoring chances. Petr Vrana converted on one of those chances, holding off a defender with one hand and snapping home a backhander that tickled the twine for his 10th of the season at 7:18. The Devils made it 2-0 on the power play later in the period. Tomas Harant teed up a blast from the right point that found its way through traffic, and Nicklas Bergfors tipped it in for his 13th of the season at 12:48.
Hartford got on the board on a delayed penalty early in the second. Jarkko Immonen scored his 11th of the season at 4:53 to cut the lead in half. Wolf Pack G Al Montoya got a little extra help in the second period when Stephen Gionta and Bergfors both hit the post on scoring opportunities. G Jordan Parise made 12 saves in net for the Devils in the second, but Lowell held a slight 23-22 shot lead after 40 minutes of play.
Lowell held strong on defense in the third period, holding the Wolf Pack to just two shots on goals through the first 11 minutes of the frame. But Hartford battled and tied the game at 11:30 when a drive from the blueline by Marvin Degon found the back of the net. It remained tied into the final minute of regulation, when Parise had to come up big on several chances by Hartford. Lowell was outshot 10-6 in the third.
The Devils had the lion's share of offensive zone pressure in overtime, and outshot the Wolf Pack 4-2. David Clarkson had perhaps the best chance with just 10 seconds left on the clock, but Montoya made the save. In the shootout, Ryan Callahan and Dwight Helminen scored for Hartford, while only David Clarkson was successful for the Devils.
The New Jersey Devils assigned D Alex Brooks to Lowell earlier today. He returned to the Lowell lineup for the first time since December 23rd and has been sidelined in New Jersey since playing his last game on January 10th.
The Devils close out this weekend road trip in Providence on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. They return to home ice on Wednesday, March 14th against the Springfield Falcons. Game time is 7:05 p.m. All Devils games, home and away, can be heard on WCAP 980AM with the Voice of the Devils, Ryan Johnston, or online through B2 Networks on www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
