Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons rallied back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Albany Devils 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at the MassMutual Center.

The Devils came out with the early attack, but Marek Langhamer stood tall through a barrage of early tests. Langhamer first made a pair of stops on a penalty kill, denying both Mike Sislo and Raman Hrabarenka. Moments later, Langhamer made another glorious save, this time denying Matt Lorito's bid. Albany opened the scoring late in the period as Lorito stripped Daktoa Mermis of the puck deep in the Springfield zone. Lortio, after stealing the puck, ripped a shot past Langhamer on his glove side. The goal, Lorito's 12th of the season, was scored at 15:19 and was unassisted.

Springfield evened the score midway through the second period when Ross Mauermann caught a break. A Devils' point shot was blocked and bounced to Mauermann who entered the Albany zone on a breakaway and beat Ken Appleby with a backhanded bid. Mauermann's fifth of the season was scored unassisted at the 6:44 mark. The 1-1 tie did not last long as Albany's power play punched through moments later. Marc-Andre Gragnani put a pass on the stick of Brian O'Neill, who blasted his seventh goal of the season past Langhamer. The goal was scored at 9:32 and also saw Sislo pick up a helper. The Devils extended their lead with another point-shot goal exactly two minutes later at 11:32 as Reece Scarlett beat Langhamer. Ben Thomson and Rod Pelley each picked up assists on Scarlett's third of the year. Springfield battled back within a goal at 16:36 as Dustin Jeffrey stripped Brandon Burlon of the puck. Jeffrey entered the zone on a breakaway and beat Appleby with a backhanded shot for his 13th of the season.

The Falcons pushback in the third period resulted in a 3-3 score just over the halfway point when Henrik Samuelsson picked up a rebound and deposited it behind Appleby for his second goal of the year. The tally, scored at 12:19, was a power play goal assisted by Jeffrey and Alex Grant. In overtime, Eric Selleck picked up a loose puck and carried it across center ice making a move around Gragnani and gaining a breakaway. Selleck ripped a shot five-hole past Appleby for his second overtime winner of the season against Albany and his ninth goal of the year. The tally was scored unassisted at 2:25 of overtime to give Selleck a career high nine goals in one season. Langhamer made 25 saves in the victory, upping his record to 5-6-1 on the season. Appleby stopped 35 shots in the loss, which downed his record to 1-2-1.

The Falcons continue their home-stand tomorrow night when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center. The team will conclude its three-game weekend on Sunday afternoon when they visit the Portland Pirates at 3:00 p.m.
