Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons had a chance to end their weekend with two points in Worcester on Sunday afternoon, but the Sharks scored twice in the third period and handed Springfield a 4-3 setback at the DCU Center. The Falcons are now 10-8-0-1 as they head into Wednesday's game against the Manchester Monarchs at the MassMutual Center.

The Falcons carried a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, but Worcester's Dan DaSilva scored the game-tying goal at 8:47 of the final period. The Sharks took their first lead of the night at 14:03 of the third period when Andrew Desjardines scored his third marker on the campaign.

"It just came down to a couple of mistakes," said Falcons head coach Rob Riley. "We had a good first period, we had the lead, it obviously didn't end the way we wanted it to."

The game started well for the Falcons as they generated some offense in the Worcester defensive zone. Springfied took the game's first lead when Tomas Kubalik opened the scoring at 15:20 of the first period assisted by Ben Guite and Matt Calvert. For Kubalik, he now has points in seven of his last 10 games collecting five goals and five assists in that span.

Later in the first period, the Falcons ended up on the game's first power play and had a chance to expand their lead, but the Sharks would bite back. Worcester's Kevin Henderson tied the score at 1-1 when he scored a shorthanded goal at 16:58 of the opening frame, but Steven Goertzen gave Springfield a 2-1 advantage when he scored on the power play at 17:53 of the first period.

In the second period, Springfield built a 3-1 advantage when Nick Tarnasky scored his first goal of the year just 23 seconds into the middle frame. Worcester cut their deficit to 3-2 when Sean Sullivan scored his fifth marker of the year at 3:05 of the second period.
