Springfield Falcons News Release
The Springfield Falcons headed to Syracuse, NY for a Saturday night showdown with the Crunch looking to rebound from a tough loss Friday, and they got back on the winning track beating the Crunch 5-4. Trevor Frischmon scored the game-winning goal midway througn the third period helping Springfield improve their record to 10-7-0-1 on the season.
The Falcons used a very fast start to set the pace on this night as Dane Byers scored a pair of power play goals less than seven minutes into the first period giving Springfield an early 2-0 lead. With the Crunch down by two goals, Syracuse enforcer Jon Mirasty started to mix up the rough stuff and in the same scrum, Byers dropped the gloves with Leigh Salters as they each picked up fighting majors. Later in the opening period, Nick Tarnasky and Josh Brittain also mixed up as they collected fighting majors as well.
Late in the opening frame, Maksim Mayorov expanded Springfield's lead to 3-0 when he tallied his sixth goal of the year at 15:51 of the first period. Syracuse cut into the Falcons' lead with a power play goal of their own at 18:57 of the first period when Matt Beleskey scored his third goal of the year.
Late in the second period, Syracuse would use a couple quick goals to pull the game even at 3-3 when Mark Mitera and MacGregor Sharp scored just 31 seconds apart sending the game all tied up at three heading into the third period.
In the third period, rookie Chris D'Alvise scored his first AHL goal in his first AHL game at 5:13 of the final frame giving the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
