Falcons Fall To Bruins 5-2

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Providence Bruins 5-2 on Saturday night in front of 4,610 at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons will now head to Portland to take on the Pirates on Sunday afternoon starting at 4 pm.

Building off the momentum gained from the emotional win the night before, Springfield's Rob Schremp opened the scoring with a power play goal at 8:19 of the first period giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Providence would battle right back and even the score at 1-1 when Martins Karsums tallied a shorthanded marker at 10:48 of the first period. The Bruins took a 2-1 lead at 19:36 of the opening frame when Mikko Lehtonen converted on the power play.

The two teams exchanged goals in the second period as Matt Marquardt scored on a penalty shot at 10:22 giving Providence a 3-1 lead, but Springfield's Theo Peckham pulled the Falcons to within a single goal at 3-2 when he converted on a power play at 19:49 of the second period.

With the Falcons applying pressure for the equalizer in the third period, Providence's Wacey Rabbit added a power play goal at 4:44 of the final frame once again putting the Bruins ahead by two. Johnny Boychuck added an empty net marker capping off the win for Providence.
