Albany Devils News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Lowell Devils' three-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday night as the Worcester Sharks held on for a 3-2 win at the DCU Center. Jon DiSalvatore notched a goal and an assist in the loss for his third multi-point effort in his last four games.
It was the Devils taking a 1-0 lead at 4:15 of the first period on Jon DiSalvatore's team-leading 10th goal of the season. Defenseman Tyler Eckford skated down to the left circle to find a loose puck and send it to the slot, where an unattended DiSalvatore wheeled and fired a snap shot over the left shoulder of Thomas Greiss.
Worcester tied the score, 1-1, with under a minute left until the intermission when Lukas Kaspar's wrist shot from the right wing sailed wide and banked off the back wall. The rebound kicked directly to the near post for Brett Westgarth to dump into an open net.
Veteran Claude Lemieux then gave the Sharks their first lead of the contest with an unassisted breakaway goal through the pads of Jeff Frazee at 4:59 of the second.
Riley Armstrong pushed the Sharks' lead to 3-1 almost four minutes later as he walked the puck off the near boards and into the slot before sneaking a quick wrister past a screened Frazee.
Lowell's power play got the Devils back within one with just 2.3 seconds remaining until the second break. DiSalvatore circled into the far corner with the puck and fed a pass along the crease for Nicklas Bergfors, who tapped it across the goal line for his seventh marker of the year.
With the Devils looking for the game-tying tally in the third period, the Sharks held Lowell to only four shots and off the scoreboard to secure the win.
Frazee made 34 saves as his personal three-game winning streak also came to an end. Lowell was 1-for-2 on the man-advantage and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The Devils return home on Sunday, January 4 for a matinee against the Manchester Monarchs at 4:00p.m. Listen to all of the action live on 980AM-WCAP as Ryan Johnston brings you all of the play-by-play.
