Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Max Taylor completed a natural hat trick with 2.4 seconds left in regulation to close out a 6-1 win for the Toronto Marlies over the Philadelphia Phantoms at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The win was the second in a row by that score for Toronto and extended Philadelphia's winless streak to six games heading into Tuesday's contest at Hamilton.

The Phantoms struck first for the second consecutive game, picking up a power play goal just 61 seconds into the contest. Patrick Maroon was down low to the right of the net and found David Laliberte on the inside of the right circle. Laliberte's wrister beat Adam Munro and gave the Phantoms a quick 1-0 lead.

But the Marlies answered with three of their own over the rest of the period, while outshooting the Phantoms 10-1 over about the last 14 minutes of the frame. First it was Darryl Boyce putting home a power play marker on a wrist shot from the slot at the 4:50 mark. Then a little less than five minutes later, Stefano Giliati spun his way through the slot and beat J.S. Aubin low along the ice to give Toronto a 2-1 lead.

The Marlies jumped out to a 3-1 advantage with 4:35 to play in the period. Brent Aubin took the puck from Adam Foster as Foster was hit by a Phantoms defenseman just outside the Philadelphia zone, and went in on a 2-on-1 with Mark Bell. Aubin fed Bell, who beat J.S. Aubin low for the two-goal lead at the intermission.

Scott Munroe replaced Aubin to start the second period and promptly was showered with 20 Toronto shots as the Marlies staked a 20-4 shot advantage. Munroe held Toronto to just one goal, which came at the 12:49 mark when Taylor fired home the rebound of a blast from the point by Giliati. It gave the Marlies a 4-1 advantage at the second intermission.

Toronto finished off the scoring with two more from Taylor in the third period. The first came at 12:09 when he converted a pass from Tim Stapleton with a one-timer from the right circle. The other came at the very end of a late power play when Taylor finished off a scramble in front of the net.

Aubin stopped 9 of 12 in the first period to take the loss, while Munroe stopped 26 of 29 over the final two periods. Munro earned the win with 14 saves on 15 Philadelphia bids.

The Phantoms continue their season-long five-game road trip on Tuesday night when they visit the Hamilton Bulldogs. They'll return home to Philadelphia on January 14 for a 7:05 match-up with the Worcester Sharks.
