
Falcons Drop Pirates for Fourth Straight Win

Portland, ME - A three-goal second period powered the Falcons past the Portland Pirates for a 6-1 victory on Friday night.
The early stages of the first period were scoreless as Falcons goaltender Louis Domingue preventing several Portland offensive chances. The Falcons eventually took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Craig Cunningham. With 4:44 left in the first period, the Falcons captain scored his third of the season assisted by Greg Carey and Steven Delisle. Despite trailing through one period, the Pirates outshot the Falcons 11-6 in the period.
The Falcons began a three-goal second period with a tally from Laurent Dauphin at 7:42. The rookie's goal was assisted by Phil Lane. Springfield's offense didn't stop with a goal from Jordan Szwarz with 4:20 left in the period. His first of the season was assisted by Alex Grant and Philip Samuelsson. The 3-0 score forced Portland to pull goaltender Mike McKenna in favor of Sam Brittain. With just under a minute, Lucas Lessio was able to convert on the power play to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. His third of the season was assisted by Szwarz and Henrik Samuelsson.
Chase Balisy scored his second of the season to break the scoreless drought for Portland and bring the game to a 4-1 score. Balisy's goal was scored 6:41 into the third period and assisted by Rob Flick and Sena Alcolatse. Springfield quickly responded with another goal from Cunningham that was assisted by Philip Samuelsson and Grant. With 5:11 left in regulation, Jeffrey would score his fifth of the season on the power play to give the Falcons a 6-1 victory over the Pirates. Cunningham and Grant assisted on the goal to complete their three-point nights.
McKenna took the loss with 12 saves on 15 shots. Brittain made eight stops on 11 shots. Domingue, the game's first star, made 34 saves on 35 shots.
The Falcons complete the three-game road trip in Bridgeport tomorrow with a 7 p.m. faceoff. The game can be heard live on NewsRadio560 WHYN.
