Falcons Stun Pirates 6-1

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates (3-6-0-0) dropped their fifth straight game in a 6-1 loss to the Springfield Falcons (4-4-1-0) on Friday night at the Cross Insurance Arena. It was the first leg of a three-game home stand for the Pirates.

Craig Cunningham put the Falcons on the board first with a goal deep into the first period at 15:16. Cunningham was assisted on his goal by Greg Carey and Steven Delisle.

Laurent Dauphin made it 2-0 Falcons at 7:32 in the second stanza with assists from Phil Lane and Corey Potter. Jordan Szwarz added another Springfield goal at 15:40 with help from Alex Grant and Philip Samuelsson. At 19:01 Lucas Lessio made it 4-0 Falcons on a 3-on-5 power play goal with Szwarz and Henrik Samuelsson on the assists.

The third period saw the only Portland goal of the game. Chase Balisy netted a power play goal at 6:41, assisted by Rob Flick and Sena Acolatse. Cunningham netted his second goal of the night at 8:18 to make it 5-1 Falcons, assisted by Philip Samuelsson and Grant. Springfield sealed the game with a final goal at 14:49 when Dustin Jeffrey scored on the power play, assisted by Cunningham and Grant.

Mike McKenna (2-4-0) started in net for the Pirates, allowing three and saving 12. McKenna was replaced by Sam Brittain (1-2-0) at 15:40 in the second period. Brittain allowed three and saved 8. The 20 saves by Pirates' goalies tonight bring the Gorham Savings Bank Saves for Charity total to $1,100 so far this season. Louis Domingue (3-2-1) started in net for the Falcons, allowing just 1 Pirate goal, saving 34 shots.
