Springfield Falcons News Release
Providence, Rhode Island - The Springfield Falcons (13-3-0-1) continued their success on special teams, as the team defeated the Providence Bruins by the final score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center and extended its current winning streak to six games.
The Falcons scored two power-play goals on eight opportunities with the man advantage. Sean Collins scored from the slot at 18:54 of the first period to give Springfield a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Cody Goloubef scored the other power-play tally at 17:51 of the second period, giving the Falcons a 3-1 lead. For Goloubef, the score was his first of the season and served as the game-winner.
Austin Madaisky also scored his first goal of the season and first in the American Hockey League, as the rookie fired a slap shot from the high slot past Providence netminder Niklas Svedberg. Madaisky's goal at 10:34 of the second period gave Springfield a 2-1 advantage.
Forwards Alex Aleardi and Jake Hansen added goals late in the third period to seal the victory for Springfield. Aleardi notched his second of the season at 17:03 of the final frame, breaking away from the Bruins defense and flipping the puck by Svedberg. With 17 seconds remaining in regulation and the Providence net empty, Hansen stole the puck on the forecheck and scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
Goaltender Jeremy Smith improved to 8-1-1, making 31 saves on 33 shots faced in net for the Falcons. The Dearborn, Michigan native has won his last five starts between the pipes for Springfield. Svedberg stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced, falling to 6-3-2 this season.
