St. John's IceCaps News Release
Jussi Olkinuora posted his first professional victory as the St. John's IceCaps rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Jerome Samson led the IceCaps with a goal and two assists, while Eric O'Dell and ex-Sound Tiger Kael Mouillierat each posted a goal and a helper for St. John's.
Johan Sundstrom opened the scoring with the Sound Tigers shorthanded, as he converted a scramble in the crease at 7:01 of the first stanza. Anders Lee made it 2-0 Sound Tigers at 2:24 of the second on a slapper from the top left face-off circle.
Andrew Gordon got the IceCaps back in the game at 10:17 of the second, when his seeing-eye bouncer from the point hit a Sound Tiger skate in front of the net and beat goalie Parker Milner. Gordon's seventh of the year was unassisted. The IceCaps tied the game at two when Samson redirected a Carl Klingberg shot from the left sideboards at 17:18. Kris Fredheim had the other assist on Samson's powerplay marker. Mouillierat gave the IceCaps their first lead when he corralled a loose puck to the right of the Sound Tigers' net on the powerplay at 6:58 of the third. Samson and O'Dell collected assists on Mouillierat's goal.
The Sound Tigers squared the contest at three when Calvin deHaan fired a blast from the point with a delayed penalty coming to the IceCaps at 11:57 of the third. However, with 4:49 remaining in the game, O'Dell sealed the win on the powerplay, converting a pretty tic-tac-toe play from Mouillierat and Samson.
The IceCaps will travel to Hershey on Wednesday (8:30 PM NT). Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com and 930 AM This is Newfoundland Labrador, or watch online at www.ahllive.com. Pregame show begins a half hour before puck drop.
