Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - Andrew Hammond made 34 saves in the Binghamon Senators net, while four of his teammates recorded multiple-point games in a 5-1 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday evening at GIANT Center.
Binghamton grabbed the game's first goal at 9:47 of the first period while working their first power play. Just eight seconds into the advantage, Mike Hoffman fed Shane Prince for a shot that eluded Philipp Grubauer.
The Bears battled in front of Hammond after going down by the goal, but the netminder made several big saves throughout the latter part of the first period and early in the second.
Only one Hershey player would solve Hammond, and it would be rookie Patrick Wey. Collecting a pass from Nathan Walker, Wey lined up his shot from the right point. The puck deflected on its way past Hammond at 10:16, giving Wey his first AHL goal.
Binghamton would then tally four times in the third period to put the game away. Stephane Da Costa first found a loose puck at the left goal post, and tapped it over the goal line at 6:06 for the eventual winner.
Mark Stone would tally his second goal of the weekend, firing a shot from the right circle past Grubauer's stick side at 15:49.
With Grubauer off for a sixth attacker, Andre Petersson hit the empty net from inside the left circle with 52 seconds left on the clock. Matt Puempel then rounded out the scoring when his low slap shot from the right half boards hit a stick and trickled through Grubauer's pads with 7.7 seconds left to play.
Grubauer drops to 4-4-1 with the loss, making 19 saves on 23 shots. Hammond improves to 5-3-0 with a strong night in goal.
The Bears drop to 6-6-2-2 on the season.
Hershey's homestand continues with the annual Thanksgiving Eve game this Wednesday, November 27. Faceoff against the St. John's IceCaps is set for 7:00 PM. All fans are invited down to the ice post-game for the Sara Lee / Canteen Vending Turkey Shoot.
