Springfield Falcons News Release

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Springfield Falcons (28-12-1-4) were defeated by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by the final score of 3-0 Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena, marking only the third time this season the team has been shut out.

Bridgeport netminder Anders Nilsson stopped all 27 shots he faced en route to his sixth win and second shutout of the season, while Anders Lee, Scott Mayfield and Mike Halmo provided the offense for the Sound Tigers. Lee and Mayfield found the back of the net just 16 seconds apart at the end of the first period, and Halmo notched his team-leading ninth power-play goal of the season on a 5-on-3 Bridgeport man advantage midway through the third period.

Jeremy Smith made 20 saves on 23 shots in net for Springfield in a losing effort. Smith, who ranks sixth in the American Hockey League with 17 wins, is winless in his last three starts and five of his last six.

Springfield went scoreless on the power play, despite a season-high 13 opportunities. Bridgeport went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

Before Saturday night, the Falcons had only been shut out twice this season, November 8 versus the Adirondack Phantoms and January 10 versus the Albany Devils. Saturday's loss also extended the team's season-long winless streak to five games. The Falcons' last victory was a 4-1 win over Adirondack Monday, January 20.

The team is back in action Tuesday, February 4 to host the Albany Devils at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m.
