Falcons Add Tremblay, Torres

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has agreed to terms with rookie left wings Hunter Tremblay and Daniel Torres for the 2007-08 season.

Tremblay brings impressive offensive credentials into his rookie season. Last season, he the Ontario Hockey League in scoring with 89 points on 35 goals and 54 assists. Tremblay participated in last year's OHL All-Star Game, and took home Eastern Conference Player of the Game honors after scoring three goals and adding two assists. In 317 career games with the Barrie Colts, he tallied 115 goals and added 159 assists for 274 points. He will attend the San Jose Sharks rookie camp this weekend, where Falcons Head Coach Matt Thomas and Assistant Coach Ryan Mougenel will have a chance to evaluate other rookie free agents. Tremblay is cousins with Jonathan Tremblay, who appeared in 63 games with the Falcons last season.

"Hunter Tremblay is an accomplished scorer," Thomas said. "He was a top scorer in the OHL for the last several seasons, and he should challenge to be a top scorer in the ECHL this season."

Torres enters his first pro campaign after completing a five-year junior career last season. The 21-year-old averaged a point-per-game during a four-year run with the OPJHL's Markham Waxers, tallying 156 points in 156 games, while also adding 587 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound left-winger made his pro debut last season, appearing in two playoff games with the Central Hockey League's Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. He is the younger brother of Edmonton Oiler left-wing, and former NHL first-round pick Raffi Torres.

"Daniel Torres is a big, tough, power-forward who is eager to get his pro career started," Thomas said. "We look for him to add muscle for us up front."

The Falcons open the 2007-08 season on Friday, October 19, hosting the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:30 p.m. for an Opening Night Extravaganza, presented by Eye Q Vision Care. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under receive a replica Falcons' jersey.
