Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers General Manager Don MacAdam announced today the signing of rookie defenseman Tom Sawatske. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Tom is a tremendous skater with good defensive pressure," said Notre Dame Associate Head Coach Paul Pooley. "He should fit right in to [the Bombers] organization based on his quality of play."

Sawatske ("sa-WAT-ski"), a 23-year-old native of Duluth, Minn., joins the American Conference Champion Bombers after two seasons with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he was named an alternate captain during the 2006-2007 season. He picked up 12 points (5G, 7A) in 73 games, as well as 104 PIM. The 5'11", 190-pound Sawatske spent the 2004-2005 season in the USHL with the Lincoln Stars, playing in 34 games and tallying 10 points (1G, 9A).

"We (Notre Dame coaches) had tremendous confidence in what he could do both on and off the ice," Pooley said.

Sawatske also played two years of collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin from 2002-2004. There he recorded 14 points (3G, 11A) after appearing in 54 games.

The Bombers' Opening Night Extravaganza is Saturday, October 20, against the rival Cincinnati Cyclones (7:00 p.m.) at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Group tickets for Opening Night are on sale now by calling 775-4747.
