Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder announced today that Thunder Goes Pink II will be held Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3. Last season, the team's weekend event raised over $37,000 for breast cancer awareness.
Thunder Goes Pink II presented by St. Joseph's Medical Center in association with County Bank will once again use two Thunder home games to help spotlight and raise funds to support breast cancer awareness.
"Last year's event was an amazing experience and the response we received from the community was so incredibly positive, that we knew it was something we wanted to continue on an annual basis," Brenda Bryant Thunder director of public relations said. "Each year we strive to increase our outreach in the community. It is great to start our season with such a large, community supported event."
The Thunder and its signature partner St. Joseph's Medical Center are joining together to raise funds for the American Cancer Society - Stockton Field Office and the St. Joseph's Foundation - Breast Cancer Services.
"Thunder Goes Pink II provides a perfect opportunity to further our mission and reach women with the important message of early detection and treatment," Donald J. Wiley, president, St. Joseph's Medical Center said. "Breast cancer has robbed our community of too many women and we aim to reverse that trend, reaching all women regardless of their ability to pay."
"Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in California, regardless of the patient's race or ethnicity," Sandy Stoddard, community services director, American Cancer Society - Stockton Field Office said. "Survival is excellent when diagnosed early. The local Stockton Field Office of the American Cancer Society provides a variety of services to support and help breast cancer patients and their families."
One dollar from every ticket sold for the event will be donated to the beneficiaries. Also, the Thunder players will once again wear specially designed jerseys which will be auctioned off for the charities in silent and live auctions during the weekend. In addition, special commemorative t-shirts will be sold with $5 from each t-shirt being donated to the beneficiaries.
Giveaway items during Thunder Goes Pink II will also help promote the cause. Among the premiums planned are Thunder pink baseball caps for the first 2,000 female fans each night. More giveaways and activities will be announced closer to the event dates.
Additional sponsors of the weekend of special events include: Port of Stockton California, Pacific Car Wash, Delta St. Joseph's Imaging Centers, Blue Cross of California, Holiday Inn Stockton, Comcast and the Record.
Each year over 200,000 new breast cancer cases are reported according to reports published by the American Cancer Society. Each year more than 40,000 women die from the disease, making it the second leading cancer killer among women.
