Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

YORK, Pa. - The Sugar Land Skeeters won an extra-inning thriller in large part due to a 13th inning home run by outfielder Willy Tavares. Relievers James Parr, Cory VanAllen, John Lujan and Ramon Delgado combined to keep the Revolution scoreless from the eighth inning on. The win brings the Skeeters record to 19-23 while York drops to 16-25.

The scoring started in the fifth and happened in bunches. The Skeeters drew first blood when Patrick Palmeiro blasted a two-run home run, scoring Chris Wallace who had singled. York didn't wait too long to battle back. In the bottom of the inning, Nick Ferdinand singled with one out and a Sean Smith groundout advanced him to second. With two outs, Valdez singled to drive in Ferdinand. Gallagher then put himself in more trouble with a hit by pitch and a walk to load the bases. One more walk to Andres Perez tied the game and then, with Brandon Boggs batting, a wild pitch gave York the lead.

The seventh inning saw York give the Skeeters some help before Dustin Martin put it in his own hands. An error on the pitcher on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Willy Tavares loaded the bases for Dustin Martin who followed up with a Grand Slam, making it a 6-3 Skeeters lead.

York responded quickly again. This time a double by Shannon Wilkerson drove in Valdez who had doubled to lead off the inning. Two batters later Andres Perez singled home Wilkerson to make it a one-run game. After another single by Boggs and an error on Jeremy Barfield put runners on second and third, Steve Proscia drove them both in with a single to make it a 7-6 game.

Denny Almonte tripled with two outs in the eighth and an error by York allowed him to score, tying the game again at 7 apiece. James Parr threw a scoreless eighth and ninth to keep the Revolution where they were and send the game into extra innings.

Cory Van Allen and John Lujan worked a combined three innings to keep York scoreless in extra frames until Willy Tavares came up for the Skeeters in the 13th inning. Tavares sent one over the wall to give Sugar Land the 8-7 lead. Ramon Delgado would come in for the bottom of the 13th and work around some trouble to close the game for the Skeeters.
