Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Waldorf, MD - June 6, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (18-22) were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (24-17) 4-1 in the final game of a rain-shortened three game series at Regency Furniture Stadium on Saturday night. The 'Fish now head to Sugar Land, Texas tomorrow evening as the road trip continues when they battle the Sugar Land Skeeters.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Scott Maine (1-4) suffered the loss, pitching six and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on six hits, walking three and striking out three. Southern Maryland Starting Pitcher Jake Hale (5-2) was victorious, tossing six innings, allowing one run (no earned runs), on five hits, walking two and striking out one.

Southern Maryland got on the board quickly off Maine, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the first inning. With the bases loaded with Blue Crabs and nobody out, Daryle Ward drew a walk, scoring Fred Lewis with the first run of the night, after Lewis started the rally reaching base on a leadoff free pass. Gustavo Molina followed with a two-run single, plating Renny Osuna and Zach Wilson. Jamar Walton then brought home Daryle Ward with a sacrifice fly, and just like that Southern Maryland had a four -run lead after one frame, a lead they would never relinquish. Bridgeport would score their lone run on the night in the top half of the sixth inning off Hale in unearned fashion. Matt Wessinger led off with a walk. Jake Luce followed with a single, and Sean Burroughs reached base on an error by Ward, scoring Wessinger. The 'Fish had a chance at an even bigger inning, but Andres Rodgriguez grounded into a double play to put an end to the threat. Luce led the way for the 'Fish with two hits.

The Bluefish are back at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday, June 11th, when they host their cross-sound rival Long Island Ducks in a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com
