PCL1 Round Rock Express

Express turns tables on RoughRiders

June 26, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release

For most of the season, one inning has been the difference between victory and defeat for the Round Rock Express. However, that changed for the better Thursday night.

Round Rock put up five runs in the sixth inning to account for all of its scoring in a 5-4 win over the Frisco RoughRiders in front of 11,231 at The Dell Diamond.

Frisco looked like it was well on its way to another win after scoring single runs in each of the first four innings. Fortunately for the Express, though, Eric Ireland was able to avoid a catastrophic frame and give Round Rock the chance to rally.

John Tamargo walked and Tommy Whiteman singled to start the sixth. That brought up Jacques Landry, who hit a towering home run to left through heavy winds and cut the lead to 4-3. Eric Cole then walked and moved to third on a ground out and a wild pitch. A second wild pitch from Keith Stamler brought him home and a clutch two-out single by Gavin Wright scored Dax Norris with the eventual winning run.

The Round Rock bullpen took over from there. Cheyenne Janke, Ruddy Lugo, Eric Cammack, Max Tremblay and Tim McClaskey combined to shut out the first place RoughRiders over the final four innings, with McClaskey striking out Kurt Airoso with the bases loaded in the ninth for his first save.

Janke (1-1) got the win with two scoreless innings. Stamler (3-5) took the loss.

With the win, Round Rock moves back to .500 for the second half at 4-4. Frisco falls to 5-3 for the half.

The Arkansas Travelers will begin their final series at The Dell Diamond this year with a four game series starting Friday at 7:05 p.m.
