Sledge Selected to Play in Triple-A All-Star Game

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that outfielder Terrmel Sledge has been selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Stars that will face the International League All-Stars in the 16th annual Triple-A All-Star Game July 16th at AutoZone Park in Memphis, Tennessee. Both teams were selected by club field personnel, media representatives and League administrators.

Sledge, 26, is hitting .332 (85-for-256) with 12 home runs and 48 RBI. Sledge is among the PCL leaders in several offensive categories. He ranks third in on-base percentage (.430), third in slugging percentage (.555), sixth in batting average (.332) and is tied for fourth in triples (six). Rated by Baseball America as the Montreal Expos' seventeenth-best prospect entering the season, Sledge leads the Trappers in home runs, RBI, stolen bases (nine) and runs scored (48).

The native of Fayetteville, North Carolina enjoyed a 20-game hitting streak from May 18 through June 11, tying him for the sixth-longest streak in Trapper history. Sledge was 32-for-75 (.427) with four home runs and 15 RBI during the streak. Sledge was named the Player of the Month for both April and May. In May, Sledge batted .371 (36-for-97) with three home runs and 20 RBI in 25 games, while posting a .429 on-base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage. In April, he batted .295 (26-for-88) with five home runs and 18 RBI in 26 games, while posting a .451 on-base percentage and a .534 slugging percentage.

Sledge split the 2002 season between Double-A Harrisburg, where he hit .301-8-43, and Triple-A Ottawa, where he hit. 263-1-11. His career minor league batting average entering the season was .302 (473-for-1564).

Selected by the Seattle Mariners in the eighth round of the 1999 draft, Sledge was traded by Seattle to Montreal, September 27, 2000, completing the deal in which the Expos sent Chris Widger to the Mariners for two players to be named, August 8, 2000.

The next Trapper home game will be on Thursday, June 26 when the club will take on the Tacoma Rainiers. The game will begin at 7:05 PM.
