Express to Host Military Appreciation Night

ROUND ROCK, Texas - To honor those that protect our freedom, the Round Rock Express will host Military Appreciation Night on Monday, June 3 when they take on the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) with an evening centered around the brave men and women who defend our country.

Mr. George D. Wilson, a Silver Star Recipient, will throw out the night's ceremonial first pitch. Mr. Wilson retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel after 21 years of active duty service. He flew 179 combat missions in Vietnam during 1964. Mr. Wilson received the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Silver Star for his service in Vietnam. He currently resides in Sun City with his wife Melanie.

Uniformed military personnel along with their children will join the Express players on the field for the singing of the national anthem. The E-Train will wear unique digital camouflage style military jerseys. During the game, fans will have the opportunity to bid on the one-of-a-kind game-worn jerseys with proceeds benefiting TexVet and "Heroes Night Out." Heroes Night Out provides services to all veterans and their families including Veterans Association claims representation, home loans, Post Tramatic Stress Disorder counseling, employment assistance, peer to peer counseling, and counseling offered by Hope for Heroes. Each jersey will be autographed by the player or coach who wore it.

Additionally, TexVet will host a Benefits Fair in the United Heritage Center, located down the first base line. Representative from more than 40 veterans' service organizations, non-profits, educational institutions and federal, state and local agencies will be take part in a benefits fair geared towards veterans, military members and their families.

The Chasco Community Partner of the night will be Honor Flight Network, a non-profit organization committed to honoring America's veterans for all their sacrifices. The mission of Honor Flight is to transport America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their services and sacrifices. Honor Flight will host a number of World War II veterans at the game Monday before they embark on their Honor Flight on June 14, 2013.
