Oklahoma City, OK - Fernando Martinez drove in three runs to lead Oklahoma City to a 5-2 decision over Omaha Tuesday night in the opener of a four-game set at Bricktown Ballpark. The Storm Chasers slipped to 24-27 and into third place in the American Conference North Division but remain only 2 1/2 games behind Memphis.

Omaha starter Chris Dwyer got himself into trouble with walks in what turned out to be his shortest performance of the season. He issued back-to-back free passes to Jake Elmore and Brett Wallace in the first inning and both scored on a triple by Martinez, who would be driven in by a Che-Hsuan Lin base hit. The southpaw put Jonathan Villar on with a walk with one out in the second inning and he would come into score on a base hit by Wallace before Martinez drove in the final run of the night for the hosts one batter later with fielder's choice grounder to forge a 5-1 advantage.

Dwyer absorbed the loss and would be lifted after just two innings during which he allowed those five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out one. The bullpen trio of Buddy Baumann, Francisley Bueno and Kelvin Herrera then did splendid work, blanking the RedHawks over the next six innings on four hits.

Irving Falu doubled with one out in the fifth, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch uncorked by OKC starter Jarred Cosart to trim the deficit to the final margin. The right-hander would then issue two walks and give up an infield hit to Xavier Nady that loaded the bases before he got Anthony Seratelli to fly out to end the inning.

Brett Hayes drew a leadoff walk in the sixth that spelled the end of the night for Cosart, who earned the win after he allowed only three hits but issued a season-high seven free passes while striking out four. Jason Stoffel followed with three hitless, scoreless innings and turned things over in the ninth to Jose Valdez, who set down the side to earn his 11th save.

The series continues Wednesday night with Omaha left-hander Ryan Verdugo taking the mound against OKC southpaw Eric Berger. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
