Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze received a day off for Memorial Day, but instead of lounging by the pool or cooking on the grill, players and coaches used their time off to help make a difference in the local community. On Monday morning, the team joined Habitat for Humanity in a volunteer effort to build a home for a family in need.
Head Coach Ron James and his team continued production on a three bedroom home for a family of three who fled Ethiopia when the government was overthrown. Players and coaches assisted in constructing the interior of a home in Salt Lake City over the course of the morning.
"Some of the core values of the Arena Football League and the Utah Blaze are community service efforts and we're happy to help out in any way that we can," Coach James explained. "Habitat for Humanity is very worthy cause. I'm happy to see our players be a part of this type of community event."
"Habitat for Humanity is an outstanding organization," Blaze quarterback Tommy Grady stated. "I'm glad we were able to spend some of our free time giving back to the community. Seeing our team come together to help out a family in need was truly a humbling experience."
Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
The Salt Lake Valley Chapter began operations in 1986. As the largest Habitat for Humanity affiliate in
Utah, Salt Lake Valley Habitat is changing lives and building neighborhoods one family at a time.
