Express Outlasted by Walleye 2-1
December 27, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Toledo, OH - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw a 1-0 lead disappear with 19 seconds left and eventually fell 2-1 in overtime to the Walleye at the Huntington Center in Toledo on Tuesday night.
Chicago goaltender Paul Dainton stole the show for the Express, holding the Walleye scoreless while making 25 saves through two periods of play. F Kyle Ostrow snapped the scoreless tie in the third period. While Chicago was on a 5-on-3 advantage, RW Tyler Donati faked a shot and slipped a pass through to Ostrow, who slammed the puck home to give the Express a 1-0 lead 6:49 into the third period. The Express held the lead until Toledo RW Nick Oslund banged home a rebound with an extra attacker to tie the game at 1-1 with just 19 seconds left in the game.
The two squads went back and forth through the first four minutes of overtime, but a late tripping penalty to the Express granted Toledo their ninth power play of the game, and D Ben Youds made Chicago pay by blasting a slap shot into the top corner of the net and boosting the Walleye to a 2-1 overtime win. G Paul Dainton stopped 40 of 42 shots and was named the third star of the game in the loss.
Power plays: CHI: 1/4; TOL: 1/9
Three stars: 1. B. Youds (TOL); 2. N. Oslund (TOL); 3. P. Dainton (CHI)
