Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Bombs away, Kyle! The Pacific Coast League announced on Monday afternoon that Round Rock Express OF Kyle Tucker will represent the league in the upcoming Triple-A Home Run Derby during Triple-A All-Star Week later this month.

Tucker will be competing against seven other power hitters in the annual hitting competition, which is set for 8:00 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 8 at Southwest University Park, home of the El Paso Chihuahuas. His competition from the PCL includes Reno INF Kevin Cron and OF Yasmany Tomas as well as El Paso INF Ty France. From the International League, Columbus OF Brandon Barnes, Gwinnett LF Travis Demeritte, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre INF Mike Ford and Lehigh Valley C Deivy Grullon will be competing for the coveted home run crown.

Tucker currently ranks second in the PCL with 24 bombs, just two shy of Cron's league-leading 26, and one away from matching his career-high of 25, set back in 2017 between Class A-Advanced Buies Creek and Double-A Corpus Christi. He currently leads all Express hitters with three multi-homer games so far in 2019.

Already named to the PCL All-Star Team, Tucker has been one of Round Rock's best hitters as of late, batting to a .319 average (66-207) since May 1. On the year, Tucker is hitting .274 (80-292) with 19 doubles, three triples, 24 home runs and 60 RBI through 76 games. He also leads the Express in runs scored with 61 and total bases with 177 while his 46 extra-base hits lead all hitters in the league. Tucker has been unstoppable on the base paths as well, stealing 19 bags while only getting caught once. His 19 steals currently rank fourth in the PCL.

The 22-year-old is widely regarded as the top position player prospect in the Astros organization and is currently tabbed as the #13 prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com. The Tampa, Florida native was originally drafted by Houston fifth overall in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

Tucker's Triple-A Home Run Derby nod marks just the second time in Round Rock Express franchise history that a player from the club was named to participate in the contest. E-Train slugger Joey Butler represented Round Rock during the 2012 Triple-A Home Run Derby in Buffalo, New York.

The 2019 Triple-A Home Run Derby kicks off All-Star Week festivities on Monday, July 8. The 32nd annual Triple-A All-Star Game is set for Wednesday, July 10 at 8:00 p.m. CDT at Southwest University Park. The game will be broadcast nationally on MLB Network. Fans who are interested in more information on the events, or would like to purchase tickets, are encouraged to visit the official website of the Chihuahuas at epchihuahuas.com.
