
Express Losing Streak Continues, Falling 3-2 to I-Cubs

DES MOINES, Iowa - Back-to-back home runs off the bat of Bryan LaHair and Jason Dubois in the bottom of the sixth helped the Iowa Cubs beat the Round Rock Express 3-2 Wednesday night at Principle Park. The Express (29-38) have lost seven straight, their longest losing streak of the season on the heels of a four-game winning streak that was their longest of the season. The Cubs (36-30) have now defeated the Express in the first four games of this five game set, while holding a 8-3 advantage for the year.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, LaHair snapped a 1-1 tie with a solo homer to left. Dubois followed LaHair with a shot to left-center, extending the lead to 3-1.
Round Rock came up short with a rally in the eighth, as the first batters reached and they only managed one run, as Drew Meyer had a two-out single bringing in Brian Bogusevic.
I-Cubs reliever John Gaub (3-1) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. He allowed one hit, one walk and struck out two. Starter Mitch Atkins pitched 5.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits. Brian Schlitter (10) earned the save, working himself out of a jam in the ninth with two runners on.
Express starter Polin Trinidad (3-5) picked up the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and five walks. Relievers Yorman Bazardo and Jonah Bayliss combined for 2.0 innings, allowing no runs with one hit given up by Bazardo.
Bogusevic (2-for-4) had his 23rd multiple-hit game for the season, going which is tops on the team.
Marcos Cabral and Drew Meyer each went 2-for-3, respectively.
Round Rock and Iowa will conclude their five-game set tomorrow, with first pitch set at 7:05 p.m. CDT at Principle Park. Right-hander Bud Norris (0-0) will make his second rehab start for the Express, while being opposed by righty Jay Jackson (3-5) for the Cubs.
