Chicago Express News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, surrendered three goals in the first period en route to falling 4-1 to the Cincinnati Cyclones at the U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday night.

The Cyclones dominated the first period, and started the scoring off with a backhander from C Michael Pelech, lifting a shot over the shoulder of G Peter Mannino at 5:44. The lead stretched to 2-0 at 8:33, as C Matthew Sisca deflected a shot from D Maury Edwards just inside the left goalpost. D David Leaderer added the final marker of the opening frame, wristing home a shot from the bottom of the left circle at 17:45, as Cincinnati led 3-0 after the first. Chicago was also out-shot by the Cyclones 10-3 in the opening period.

Neither team was able to crack the scoresheet in the second period, thanks in large part to the play of Mannino. The Express goaltender stopped a flurry of shots just past the halfway point of the second period, and then stared down RW Mathieu Aubin on a penalty shot, as the Cyclones forward rang a shot of the post. The score remained 3-0 after the middle stanza.

F Kyle Ostrow put Chicago on the board in the third period, deflecting a shot from D Josh Burrows at 8:58, making the score 3-1. Cincinnati came back, however, as a shot from D Taylor Aronson while the Cyclones were on a 4-on-3 advantage snuck past Mannino, restoring the Cyclones three goal advantage. It was the final goal of the night, as Cincinnati sunk the Express by the 4-1 score.
