Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - Round Rock starter Jared Gothreaux was masterful in eight shutout innings in a 2-0 Express win over Memphis Thursday night.

Gothreaux earned his third win of the year in impressive fashion. The right-hander silenced the Redbirds bats and did not allow a runner past second base. Travis Hanson's ground-rule double in the seventh inning was the lone extra-base hit the 'Birds had in the game. Gothreaux allowed four hits, fanned three and issued three walks before Travis Driskill nailed down his first save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.

Memphis starter Blake Hawksworth was solid for the Redbirds as well. He made one mistake in the sixth inning when Brooks Conrad crushed a two-run homer to right field. Hawksworth struck out six but walked four in six innings. The right-hander did not allow a hit until the fifth when Eric Bruntlett singled to left; Hawksworth gave up just three hits on the night.

The 'Birds will send lefty Troy Cate to the hill tomorrow night to counter Round Rock's Chad Reineke. Game time is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
