PORTLAND, Ore. - Miguel Pinango yielded one run in six innings of work, and Larry Bigbie belted a home run among his three hits as the Las Vegas 51s defeated the Portland Beavers 6-1 before 7,591 at PGE Park Thursday night.

Choo Freeman added two hits and Sergio Garcia drove in two runs for the 51s, who out-hit Portland 12-4 and got at least one hit from all nine starters.

Pinango (2-0), making just his second start for the 51s, allowed just three hits and struck out three. The right-hander has allowed just one earned run in 11 innings of work in two appearances for Las Vegas this season.

Jack Cassel (3-3) suffered his first defeat in more than a month, giving up three runs (2 earned), eight hits and striking out eight over six innings for the Beavers (18-21).

Luis Cruz and Vincent Sinisi had two hits apiece for Portland.

Las Vegas (18-21) scored on a wild pitch and a fielding error, and got an RBI single from Garcia as it took a 3-0 lead in the second.

Cruz belted a solo home run to left field in the fifth for Portland, but the 51st went back to work in the seventh, adding to their lead with a run-scoring triple by Tony Abreu, who scored on a sac fly from Garcia.

Bigbie tacked on some insurance in the eighth with a solo homer off reliever Aaron Rakers.

The Beavers play host to Las Vegas again Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: Pitcher Scott Cassidy, who is recovering from a knee injury, joined the Beavers to begin a major league rehabilitation assignment ... the Beavers have homered in four straight games ... the Beavers have committed at least one error in six straight games, totaling 13 in that span ... Cassel had his string of 23 straight innings without allowing an earned run snapped in the three-run second ... Portland has failed to reach double digits in hits in its last 12 games ... Portland pitchers matched a season high with 12 strikeouts.
