TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Iowa Cubs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Last year, Iowa tied Nashville for first in the American North Division. They lost the division title to Nashville by tie-breaker.
VS. IOWA:
The RedHawks won the season series 9-7 in 2006. The RedHawks went 5-3 against Cubs at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Last year, the Hawks hit .251 in 16 games against Cub pitching. The RedHawk pitchers had a 3.54 ERA against Cub hitters.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 39 of the season. It's the first game of a four-game series and the first of 15 meetings between Oklahoma and Iowa this season. The RedHawks are home after going 3-5 on an 8-game road trip to Las Vegas and Tucson.
LAST GAME:
The RedHawks lost 13-5 in the final game with Tucson. Every Sidewinder in the lineup had at least one hit as they racked up 19 hits for the second consecutive night against RedHawk pitchers. RedHawk starter Alfredo Simon earned the loss by allowing 13 runs (12 earned) in just four innings of work.
ROSTER MOVES:
Pitchers A.J. Murray and Scott Feldman were recalled by Texas on Tuesday. Outfielder Kevin Mahar had his contract purchased by Texas yesterday. Pitchers Dan Touchet and Mike Wagner were sent back to extended spring training yesterday. Frank Catalanotto joins the RedHawks today on a major league rehab assignment. Pitcher Randy Williams joins the RedHawks today from Frisco, and David Matranga was activated off of the RedHawks' DL.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Josh Rupe
looks for his third win of the season today in his seventh start. Rupe won his last start Friday at Las Vegas by allowing five runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings. Last year Rupe earned a save in two appearances against the Cubs. Sean Marshall gets the ball for Iowa. Last season Marshall earned a no-decision against the RedHawks, pitching six scoreless innings Aug. 22. Iowa eventually won the game 5-3.
GOING LONG:
The RedHawks have 18 home runs this month after Ramon Vazquez and Guillermo Quiroz homered Tuesday night at Tucson. The RedHawks finished last in April with nine in 24 games. The RedHawks lost for sixth time when they hit a home run (13-6).
MARLON BYRD: Marlon Byrd
went 6-for-14 with a homer and five RBIs in the last series against Tucson. Byrd is third in the PCL with a .365 average and tied for fourth with 50 hits.
DREW MEYER:
Drew Meyer has an 11-game hitting streak dating back to April 15 after going 2-for-4 with a run Tuesday night. This is the longest streak for a RedHawks this season. In the last 11 games Meyer has played, he is hitting .395 (15-38) with an RBI.
STARTING FAST:
The RedHawks are 9-1 in the first game of a series this season. They defeated Tucson 7-3 Saturday night in the first game of that series.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks are second in the PCL in hitting for the month of May with a .309 team batting average...RedHawks have hit a least one double in 12 consecutive games...The RedHawks allowed 19 hits to Tucson in each of the last two games, setting a new season high for hits allowed in a game...The RedHawks have committed an error in six straight games.
