Round Rock Express News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Jay Gibbons' two-run homer snapped an 11-11 tie and highlighted a five-run eighth inning, helping the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 16-13 win over the Round Rock Express Friday night at Isotopes Park. The series is tied after the second game of the set, while Round Rock (39-54) is even 5-5 in the season series with the Isotopes (46-45).
The Isotopes added insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth, with a Justin Sellers one-out RBI double. Elian Herrera then stepped up and drove a two-run RBI single to left field.
Round Rock brought the tying run to the plate after Collin DeLome's second home run of the night, but were only able to add two runs.
Josh Lindblom (1-2) picked up the good-luck win; after allowing three runs on three hits in the eighth inning. Cory Wade earned his first save of the season after not allowing a run with one strikeout.
Express reliever Roy Corcoran (1-10) received the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in the pivotal eighth inning. Starter Sergio Perez gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Round Rock hung a three-spot on the board in the first inning, taking advantage of three walks and a fielding error. A one-out Ramon Vazquez RBI single scored the leadoff hitter, Wladimir Sutil, who reached on a walk. The next batter, Edwin Maysonet, drove in Brian Bogusevic, who reached on a walk. The third walk of the frame was issued to Yordany Ramirez, which brought in Drew Locke.
The Isotopes countered in the bottom of the second, capped by Justin Sellers' one-out grand slam to center field. Trent Oeltjen's solo blast pushed the Isotopes lead at 5-3.
Albuquerque plated four runs in the fifth, responding after Round Rock evened the game at six with two runs in the top half of the frame.
The Express hit four homers; an inside-the-park homer by DeLome and his shot in the ninth, along with a Sutil and Maysonet blast.
Round Rock and Albuquerque continue their four-game series Saturday with a 8:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Isotopes Park. Left-hander Andy Van Hekken (6-5, 3.99 ERA) heads to the mound for the Express, opposed by right-hander Claudio Vargas (1-3, 7.11) for the Isotopes.
